Prenatal & Early Years Program - Vancouver Coastal Health

Phone call and home visits for new mothers.
The Prenatal & Early Years Program provides nursing services to answer questions about birthing parent, baby, or family health and provides access to Public Health services.

​Mothers who give birth in a hospital will receive a phone call from a public health nurse within 24-48 hours after discharge from hospital. Birthing parents who receive care from a midwife will receive care in the first few days from their midwife and will be contacted by a Public Health Nurse within six to eight weeks.

In the Prenatal & Early Years Program, Public Health Nurses provide nursing services to answer questions about birthing parent, baby, or family health and provide access to public health services including:
  • prenatal support,
  • after birth care of a new baby,
  • child health clinics (immunization),
  • breastfeeding support,
  • telephone support and advice,
  • capacity building,
  • parenting support
  • screening and referral to developmental screening
