Seating Service - G.F. Strong
Medical Equipment
Provided by Vancouver Coastal Health
Seating and mobility issues may include: pressure injuries, significant postural deformity, pain and spasticity or exploration of alternate drive controls. Support is provided in a consultative manner to a client's primary therapist – usually an Occupational Therapist. The consultation typically includes a joint initial assessment to determine the complexity of the client's needs and the formulation of a seating and mobility intervention plan to optimize postural supports and functional performance. The intervention plan may include equipment trials and recommendations, custom seating, mobility training and client/caregiver education. In person and virtual consults are offered depending on region. Clients served must be residents of BC or the Yukon, age 19+; require the use of a wheelchair and have a public health clinician actively involved in their care.
Referral Information : Referrals must include: complete client demographics, relevant medical history, contact information for the Primary Therapist, a current seating screen, and description of the seating and mobility goals. Additional reports or information regarding client functional status, and/or previous seating and mobility interventions is very helpful. Part one can be filled out by a physician, nurse practitioner or primary therapist. PART TWO MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE PRIMARY THERAPIST. Incomplete referrals will be returned. Once the complete referral is received, the referral is reviewed by the Seating Service for acceptance onto the program. All referrals should be directed to the Admissions Clerk at GF Strong by phone or fax.
