Youth Urgent Response Team (YURT) - An urgent youth mental health and substance use service

An urgent mental health and substance use service for youth.
YURT provides urgent and short-term services to youth ages 12-19 living in North or West Vancouver who are experiencing thoughts, feelings or behavior and/or substance use which is seriously interfering with their daily functioning. YURT is for youth experiencing the following:

  • Acute disturbance in mood, thinking or behavior which might manifest with suicidal ideation, mood problems or psychotic symptoms
  • Moderate to severe primary substance use with or without mental illness
  • Functional challenges associated with housing, income and health
  • Difficulties accessing health and social services


  • Referral Criteria:

  • Youth aged 12 to 19
  • Rapid onset of extreme mental health and/or substance use symptoms resulting in the youth being unable to participate in their typical daily activities or relationships
  • Mental health crisis may include high risk self-harming behaviors, active suicidal thoughts or attempts, intense anxiety or depression, distorted thinking, psychotic symptoms, or high risk of significantly harming others
  • Youth would benefit from crisis stabilization support and intervention
  • Experiencing difficulties accessing health and social services


  • YURT is provided by VCH in partnership with Foundry (North Shore).
